The AI Connector is an optional paid feature that lets Claude and ChatGPT interact with your Vigil Today data using natural language. It is not required to use Vigil Today — the web app remains free.

For developers: see the MCP Integration Reference for the full list of tools, OAuth scopes, and data flow.

What it can do

Depending on the OAuth scopes you grant, the AI Connector lets Claude or ChatGPT:

  • Check what reminders are due today
  • Check what reminders are overdue
  • Check what inventory items are running low
  • Summarize your completion history and recent activity
  • Explain when you last completed a reminder or used an item
  • Mark a reminder complete
  • Record that you used one unit of an inventory item
  • Record a purchase to add units back to an existing inventory item
  • Create, update, or archive reminders
  • Help you plan what to reorder based on your current inventory

New inventory items are added from the Vigil Today web app, not through the assistant. The connector can update quantities on items you already track, but it cannot create new ones.

Example prompts

  • "What should I reorder this week?"
  • "What reminders are due today?"
  • "I bought another pack of water filters. Add 3 to inventory."
  • "When did I last change the water filter?"
  • "Why did Vigil Today remind me about the water filter?"
  • "What did I miss this month?"
  • "Remind me to take vitamin D every morning at 8am."

What the AI Connector cannot do

The AI Connector cannot purchase products, place orders, complete checkout, transfer money, or execute any financial transaction. The vigil_record_purchase tool only logs that you have already received items into your own inventory — it never opens a retailer, follows a link, or moves money.

The assistant does not see, return, or recommend any affiliate or product URLs. Affiliate links are surfaced only inside the Vigil Today web app, with disclosure.

Personal use only

The AI Connector is intended for personal use only. Do not use it for:

  • Team task management
  • Business inventory management
  • Medical or clinical purposes
  • Emergency situations
  • Healthcare decisions
  • Legal matters
  • Compliance tracking
  • Any critical or life-safety purpose

Permissions

When you connect Claude or ChatGPT, you'll be asked to grant a subset of these OAuth scopes on the consent screen. Grant only the ones you understand and intend.

  • reminders:read — Read your reminder list, schedules, and due dates.
  • inventory:read — Read your inventory items, quantities, and alert states.
  • completions:read — Read your completion history and per-reminder stats.
  • reminders:write — Create, update, archive, and mark reminders complete.
  • inventory:write — Adjust inventory quantities (purchases, uses, and the auto-decrement side of marking a linked reminder complete).

Review the permissions carefully before approving. You can revoke any connection at any time in Settings → Connections.

Sensitive items

Inventory items you mark as sensitive in the Vigil Today web app (medications, private items, anything you'd rather not have an assistant name out loud) are excluded from AI Connector responses by default. The assistant sees an isSensitive: true flag and a redacted display name, so it can still tell you "a sensitive item is running low" without naming it.

If you'd like the assistant to access full names and details for sensitive items, you can opt in per-connection in Settings → Connections. Most users should leave this off.

Third-party AI providers

The AI Connector currently supports Claude (by Anthropic) and ChatGPT (by OpenAI). Each provider processes your requests under its own terms of service and privacy policy:

Vigil Today is not responsible for how third-party AI providers handle the data they receive. Only connect providers you trust, and review their policies before authorizing a connection.

Pricing

The Vigil Today web app is free. The AI Connector is currently free during early access — payment processing is being set up, and a paid tier will return once it's in place. Existing users will be notified before any charge becomes active.

Payments processed by Polar.sh as Merchant of Record.

Safety

Do not use the AI Connector for medical, emergency, legal, financial, or any critical purpose.

AI assistants can misunderstand instructions, make mistakes, and call tools incorrectly. Always verify the results of AI actions in your Vigil Today account before relying on them. Do not trust AI-generated responses for any decision where accuracy matters.

See our Safety Disclaimer for the full statement.

Affiliate disclosure

Vigil Today may use Amazon affiliate links for product reordering inside the web app. As an Amazon Associate, the operator earns from qualifying purchases.

The AI Connector does not return affiliate URLs in any tool response, and the assistant cannot follow, surface, or recommend those links. Affiliate links appear only in the Vigil Today web app, with disclosure. See our full Affiliate Disclosure.
